About Ruapehu Snow Sports

What We Do

WHO IS RSS?

We are the "Green Jackets" on Mt Ruapehu, New Zealand , and we have been involved in Alpine Ski Race Training since 1978.

The most important thing about us is that we are a non-profit, Snow Sports NZ affiliated Ski and Snowsports club, run by parents, and past parents.

All involved in the running of our club are volunteers.

Most RSS athletes are 7-19 years old.

OUR FEES

We as a club are a non-profit organisation.  The fees we charge aim to cover costs and we endeavour to keep all fees down to make our club as inclusive as possible.

There is a charge for the uniform hire for the year , and we have a annual club membership fee.

OUR PROGRAMS

We are the official club affiliated to RAL - Mt Ruapehu in the North Island of New Zealand.

The Team Ruapehu programs we endorse:

The Alpine Ski Racing program is designed to take athletes that can already ski to the next level - ski racing in events such as NIPS (Primary), NISSSC (Secondary), SSNZ races at Mt Ruapehu and the North Island Interfield Races, as well as competing in south island events.

If you are enrolled in Team Ruapehu Alpine Ski training with RAL, you need to become a member of our club.  Membership of a club is necessary in order to compete at Alpine Race events in NZ, and gain to points in races.

The Freeride/Frestyle program: Choose from the Skiing or Snowboarding option at Turoa.  Both options combine Park with Tricks in the Back Country.

Both of these programs are designed to train towards SSNZ slopestyle events such as the Junior Freeride Tour, Big Mountain events and open big air and park events. These sports are judged events that require on-snow and air confidence with alert acrobatic skiing & snowboarding. Exploring amplitude, mental focus and gymnastic skills

If you are enrolled in these training programs with RAL, you need to become a member of our club.  Membership of a club is necessary in order to compete at events in NZ. For more information click here

Our programs include an offsnow dryland training component for inclement weather.  We have a fully resourced club gym at National Park, and the off snow program includes other activities as decided by the coaches.

As we are a non-profit organisation, unfortunately we cannot offer refunds for athlete injury or weather impacting training.

Snowboard programs are offered by RAL but do not require RSS membership. For more information click here

MT RUAPEHU

OUR MOUNTAIN

Situated in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand, Mt Ruapehu is placed within Tongariro National Park.  It  has been home to our club since 1978. We have the choice of 2 skifields, Turoa on the Southern slopes and Whakapapa on the Northern side.  They are the two largest skifields in NZ and contain the only North Island glaciers on its slopes.  Both skifields are accessible by car and chairlift, with beginners to advanced slopes.

Why Do We Do It?

Our Club's goal is to create life-long lovers of Snowsports on Mt Ruapehu
